![]() ![]() I do not think the new management of Avid is stupid. I know Avid listen, this is my experience from Avid Europe, but I also feel their frustration then they said, - "We can not do anything, they desciding everything in America." It takes time to turn around an oil tanker. Do You think they can ask customers, make hardware specifications, start and finish developing new hardware and make extensive beta testing of it then they also has to finish the first two pices in their DX-line? I think they can not do it.ĭo not judge the new thinking on the release of new hardwares which has been developed during the last two years. It is about 6 month ago Avid annonced this new thinking campain, when they abandon NAB. If that is there intent, I believe they could avoid a lot of this negative reaction by just being honest and telling us outright that this is the intended shift in their market focus. And Avid appears to have adopted "New Thinking" to get rid of its lower end markets so it can focus on national network and theatrical distribution digital cinema markets. ![]() They will have nothing to do with any Autodesk product. And many who also used Combustion stopped participating in Combustion upgrades or abandoned it for eyon Fusion or After Effects. I don't know of one Discreet editor who took the bait on the "special deal upgrade" to Toxik or Smoke. It is the Autodesk-Discreet edit scenario all over again. So IMHO, DX hardware misses in serving the low to mid-range XproHD, MC markets and is priced in a way that effectively tells these users Avid would prefer they take their business elsewhere. Still, when compared to other BOBs and I/O cards that plug into the PCIe bus, MojoDX is at least triple the price, and often less flexible in I/O (does not provide analog spigots or reasonable full-res monitor output). With so many HDV, XDCam HD, XDCam Ex, and ProHD cameras/recorders and studio quality LCD monitors sporting HDMI and HD-SDI/SDI I/O, I'm not so sure the MojoDX connector mix is inappropriate (although it does force those in a mixed analog/digital, SD/HD environment to invest in some standalone converters from the likes of Aja, Blackmagic Designs, Miranda etc.). #AVID MEDIA COMPOSER MOJO DX SOFTWARE#MC software pricing says, "we want this market", while DX hardware pricing says, "that market can go to h_ or at least FC, Premiere, Vegas, Edius." So the "New Thinking" appears to be based on not listening to the majority of Avid users, but only to the "elite" users who have paid Avid to listen via (grossly overpriced) service contracts. Government, (Federal, state, county, local, executive, legislative, judicial, law enforcement, military, product development and testing) telemedicine, and other medical applications, education and training, intra-organization communication - all these arenas dwarf network and hollywood markets even when the "private" sector (wedding/event and "personal production") is left totally out of the equation or tossed on the Hollywood side of the scale. #AVID MEDIA COMPOSER MOJO DX PROFESSIONAL#The point is that national broadcast and theatrical release content production accounts for less than 5% of the portion of GNP in professional film and video production. I was reacting to the suggestion that MojoDX pricing was a drop in the bucket and a few hours of work for editors of HDCAM-SR, Varicam, CineAlta and other national network, digital cinema targetted formats. ![]()
